What is new?
According to the ChatGPT release notes of 20 October 2026, ChatGPT Slides creates presentations that you then keep working on with your team in Space. The starting point can be a conversation, a file or an outline. Sharing an example deck tells ChatGPT which style and layout to follow.
Text, images, shapes and charts can be edited directly, or you can ask ChatGPT to make changes. Your own images can be added or new ones generated. According to the help article, tables are also among the directly editable elements. Space is the area in ChatGPT where pages, files and related work are kept together and shared.
Who can use ChatGPT Slides?
OpenAI is rolling out Slides gradually to eligible users on the Pro, Business and Enterprise plans with Space access, on the web and in the desktop app. If you don't see the feature yet, it may not be available for your account yet, according to the help article. According to the release notes of 29 September 2026, Space itself is available to eligible Pro, Business and Enterprise users; sharing follows the organization's settings, and for Enterprise, sharing is an opt-in preview.
One technical limitation affects Windows: without the required MXC component, the desktop app uses PowerPoint files instead of collaborative Slides for local creation and editing. Windows 10 does not support this component. On Windows 11, an update may be needed, or the organization has to enable the component. OpenAI names cloud mode or ChatGPT on the web as the alternative.
How is a presentation created?
The help article describes two ways. In Work, you ask ChatGPT to create ChatGPT slides and describe the topic, audience and content. An existing conversation or attached source files serve as material. ChatGPT creates an editable presentation that you can open in Space. If you ask for it explicitly, ChatGPT provides a PowerPoint or Google Slides presentation instead. Alternatively, choose Create > Slide in Space and start blank or from a template.
For a consistent look, share an example deck as a template. Your own templates are created with template-creator and can be distributed across the team by including them in a team plugin. To change a single element, select it, choose Request edits and describe the change. On the web, the font picker shows the fonts available in your browser; in the desktop app, ChatGPT can use installed system fonts.
How does collaboration work?
Everyone with edit access can change a shared presentation at the same time. In shared comments, you mention colleagues with @. Mentioning ChatGPT with @ has the agent make changes; alternatively, you can mention your own dot, the always-on agent in ChatGPT.
Important for approval processes: according to OpenAI, comment-only access is not available at launch. Anyone who should take part in the discussion therefore needs edit access and can also change content. According to the release notes of 29 September 2026, dots have limited availability: Pro access excludes the European Economic Area, Switzerland and the UK at launch, and for Enterprise, access is a beta that is off by default.
How do you present and export?
You can present directly from ChatGPT. On the web, the presentation can be exported: to PowerPoint to keep editing the .pptx file, to PDF for viewing, or to Google Slides to continue working there. If PowerPoint or Keynote is installed on the computer, the desktop app can also open the presentation there; on macOS, you can show the file in Finder.
OpenAI recommends reviewing text, figures and layout before sharing or presenting and checking exported files again for content and formatting. For businesses, this means an AI-generated presentation is a draft. Subject-matter approval and checking the figures remain with the responsible people.
What should businesses do now?
First, check whether your plan has Space access and how sharing is configured in your organization. Decide who may edit presentations, because there is no comment-only access at launch. On Windows computers, check whether the MXC component is available, or use ChatGPT on the web. Store an approved template in the team plugin so presentations look consistent.
If you already work in PowerPoint, you can also use ChatGPT for PowerPoint, which has been generally available as a sidebar in PowerPoint since July 2026. Slides is a better fit when the work starts in ChatGPT and the team keeps working on it there. The free AI System Check helps organize tools, approvals and responsibilities across your team.
